Discovery School Begins (see pictures) Teachers (including Kjell) returned to work on August 3rd, while students began the following week, August 10th. It was a hard and busy couple of weeks before school (finding supplies and some clothes as well as dealing with the anticipation of the upcoming year), but we survived! We had some very specific prayer requests (for the school, teachers, students, and friends for the kids) and many have already been answered. What a blessing the 20 minute ride to and from school is for Kjell and the kids in place of the hour to hour and a half last year living in Zambrano. On-going Prayer requests for Discovery School:
Substitute at Nashville School (see pictures) A missionary friend was asked to substitute teach for a month for 7th and 8th grade at a bilingual school in the Valley of Angels (Nashville School), but was unable to help, so asked if I (Marcy) would. I met Valerie Rosentreter, an American who is the director of the school and agreed to fill in. The school was still under construction as I walked around and asked my 100 questions about the upcoming adventure. Nashville School has an established bilingual school in Tegucigalpa and decided to buy and run a previously existing bilingual school in Valley last November. This will be their second year, but first full year at this location. Two amazing things:
I have to admit – I’m fighting fear and anxiety! 7th and 8th graders – grades that usually have a teacher per subject and I will be teaching geography, literature, grammar, science, and music (not every subject for each grade every day, but it is on a schedule). And, as is the Honduran way, the books have not arrived. What books have not arrived? All of them (for any of the subjects!)! Teacher orientation and planning begins August 22nd and the students will not arrive until the 29th. Yesterday (Sunday), we began The Fellowship in our home. A teacher at Kjell’s school was interested in learning more about God. This week we took time just to get to know her and find out what she would like to learn. We will begin teaching on God's love, grace, and then the Life of Jesus. The Fellowship will be every Sunday at 10am. Pray for her to invite her friends and that we would know who else to invite from the school and/or community. Acts 2:42, “And they continued steadfastly in the apostles doctrine and an intimate bond of fellowship which unites, in breaking of bread, and in prayers.” I John 1:3, “That which we have seen and heard declare we to you, that you also may have an intimate bond of fellowship which unites with us: and truly our intimate bond of fellowship which unites with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ.” I John 1:7, But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have an intimate bond of fellowship which unites with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.”
