What is the call of God?
God is love. Within love is every good characteristic or 'call' in manifestation. God requires that all believers grow in their walk with Him, develop character, and develop in the fruits of the spirit; however, He has placed within every person an attribute of His character that He desires to manifest through them.
The call of God is who you are manifested in what you do. It is not a mysterious activity that you engage in or a series of events, but it is that unique creation that you are evidenced by what you do.
Many confuse the call of God as a job, activity, or position. It is none of those, although it can be seen in those areas. For example, being a salesman is not a call of God and neither is being a pastor, for they both are jobs or positions. The call of God is evident in everything you do. In the example of a salesman, is that man a salesman to his wife? No, he's a husband. Likewise, is the pastor a pastor in the grocery store? No, he's a customer. God uses both the salesman's job and the pastor's position to allow for each of those men's respective callings to manifest. Another example is an Army General. When he's at the base, he's called General, but when he's at home, his wife doesn't call him General. He will display the same traits that make him a powerful general at home, but the way in which they manifest will change. He will not bark orders at his wife, but he will be able to organize a family outing with precision and efficiency. His position or job is not his calling; it is a way in which his calling manifests.
My (Kjell's) calling in life is to be a messenger of hope. I can be that in every area of my life: at home with my wife and children, at work with my colleagues, in the store as a customer, etc. All of the jobs, activities, and positions I do or hold act as platforms for me to exhibit my calling: messenger of hope. I give hope to people all around me all the time because that's who I am - I can't help it! When I am with my family, I dispense hope, when I am playing basketball, I give hope, when I am at church, I spread hope.
Marcy's calling in life is as direction giver. She receives direction from God through His word and in prayer for herself first. Her primary focus is to help others receive their own direction from God Himself, although she can provide the wisdom from the word (through preaching, teaching, articles, books, one-on-one consultations, etc.) as direction as well. She can give direction in every other area of her life as well. There is a fine line between direction and advice and sometimes people do not want either. This has caused her to realize two things. One, we all at times reject not only direction, but other attributes of God. Second, every child of God has an attribute of Him that we need to find and dig out.
Your call in life is to be who God created you to be and allow all the jobs, activities, and positions to be ways and means of 'being'. You are a human being, not a human doing. Your call in life, what God has planned for you, should not be lowered to the plane of job or activity or position.
Every person has a call of God on their lives. Everyone.
